A device that records television to digital storage rather than tape, letting viewers pause live broadcasts, replay instantly and skip past advertising far more easily than a VCR allowed. TiVo and ReplayTV both launched at the 1999 Consumer Electronics Show, with TiVo shipping its first units on 31 March 1999.
