The Venice Film Festival, founded by Giuseppe Volpi and first held in August 1932, is the world's oldest film festival and one of the industry's Big Five international festivals. It opened on the night of August 6, 1932 with a screening of the American film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at the Excelsior Palace Hotel, with nine participating nations, and closed on August 21.
