The Cable News Network, launched by Ted Turner in Atlanta on 1 June 1980 as the first television channel devoted entirely to news around the clock. Its live coverage of the 1991 Gulf War demonstrated continuous global news as a new fact of politics, and the rolling news format it invented has been copied worldwide.
