On 23 July 1962, the Telstar 1 communications satellite relayed the first publicly available live television signal across the Atlantic, carrying images including the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower to viewers in North America and Europe through NBC, CBS, ABC, CBC and Eurovision. Walter Cronkite and Chet Huntley anchored the American broadcast and the BBC's Richard Dimbleby anchored from Brussels, the same evening Telstar also relayed the first satellite telephone call, between Vice President Lyndon Johnson and AT&T chairman Frederick Kappel.
